Gnarlbough Chillshade

This gigantic (28' tall) and ancient gakarak resembles a twisted oak tree, covered in galls and knots. He dwells in the heart of the Evershadow Forest. His hatred of the elves is unmatched, and bitterly frustrated - while he is among the most powerful of his kind, he is not a ruler, and cannot organize his fractious kin for war.
Furthermore, over his long life he has spoken with many faerie creatures, and learned many things about the Hollow World. While he does not know the true nature of the Spell of Preservation, he has become aware that some subtle influence prevents the outright destruction of many things, and operates to foil radical change (he attributes this to direct Immortal meddling rather than a spell, however).
This knowledge has further increased his balked hate and desire for destruction - and about 40 years ago, a connection was formed with Thanatos. Gnarlbough is now a shaman drawing entropic magic from that dark being, and much of the dreadful aura of Evershadow Forest has grown worse in the last few decades as he has grown in power.
In the last few years, dreams have come to him, speaking of a power source that mortals might wield to break the Immortals' plans, stolen from Thanatos by his jealous peers and hidden away beneath the heart of the mountain spine of Jomphur west of the Sylvan Highlands... [This "power source" is in fact an imprisoned Burrower.]
