Sarrattalu

For Sarrattalu [Thanatos]

The Immortal is the personification of Death in the Taymoran religion. His name means literally King of Darkness, and he is perceived as the ruler of the Otherworld. The commoners of the Taymoran City-State worship this evil god in an attempt to escape his wrath, and postpone the day of their demise.
Sarrattalu is never represented. His temples hold a giant size, empty throne of black volcanic rock.
It is said that Sarrattalu can appear in any form he desires, but his true form is that of a giant, shadowy figure with glowing red eyes. Some claim to have seen him in their dreams, beckoning them to join him in the Otherworld.
According to legend, Sarrattalu has the power to bring people back from the dead, but at a terrible cost. Those who are resurrected by Sarrattalu are forever changed, their souls forever bound to his will.
Some say that Sarrattalu can be defeated, but only by someone who is pure of heart and has the courage to face him in the Otherworld. Such a hero would need to brave the dangers of the underworld and confront Sarrattalu in his own realm, a task that few have ever attempted and fewer have survived.
It is believed that Sarrattalu has the power to predict the day of a person's death, and that those who anger him will meet their demise sooner rather than later. This has led many to worship Sarrattalu in an attempt to placate him and extend their own lives.
Some say that Sarrattalu can be bargained with, and that those who offer him a sufficient sacrifice may be able to delay their own death or the death of a loved one. However, it is rumored that Sarrattalu always demands a heavy price for his favors.
It is rumored that there are certain rituals and spells that can be used to communicate with the spirits of the dead, and that Sarrattalu is able to hear and respond to these messages. Some believe that it is possible to plead with Sarrattalu for mercy or to bargain for more time.
