Some scrollsby Peet
In my B/X + homebrew game I introduced the scroll of recall which if read by a caster while casting a spell, the spell would not be lost (though the scroll would). Such scrolls have levels and for example a scroll of recall (2nd) could be used to preserve a 1st or 2nd level spell.
The net effect is that the party is not forced to camp as often, and I think that's a good thing.
I also added the scroll of power which could be used while casting a spell, just like the scroll of recall. It adds +1 damage per die if the spell deals or heals damage, adds a -1 penalty to saves, and extends any duration that is measured in turns by 1d6 turns. Like the scroll of recall, the scroll of power has a level and cannot enhance spells with a higher level than the scroll.
