Thyatis Patrons and Clients

by Marc Saindon

Rather than settle the wilderness and establish a dominion, a Name Level character could "buy" Clients (partisans) in an urban area, notably to influence local politics. He can't really build a stronghold, he can commission public works (baths, arenas, markets) to improve the district he's in. He could also commission great artists to build statues in the neighborhood, organize events, or pay for public services (like trash collection). These efforts would help a character get access to better public offices or military commissions.

Similar patronage could also work in Darokin (using the more Renaissance backdrop as inspiration).

This might also be other side of the coin of a Thieves' Guild or crime family.
