Monsters based on turtles for Mystara and Beyond

by Håvard

In this thread, The Dark brought up the following regarding Turtle-like monsters:

It's actually somewhat surprising how few turtle-based creatures there are. Going through mojobob's list of creatures from 2nd edition, I come up with the following:
Dark Sun has the cha'thrang, drik, and flailer.
Spelljammer has the gammaroid (as a 100 HD creature, it's a bit much).
Al-Qadim has the zaratan (also overly large at 51-70 HD).
Standard AD&D has the dragon turtle.
Greyhawk has the giant turtle.
Red Steel has the kla'a-tah and cluu-rin, which would be especially appropriate, along with the nikt'oo (not particularly appropriate, since it's a mount).

So to recap:

Turtle Creatures found in Mystara published material:

Below are some new Turtle themed monsters for Mystara:

Turtle, Giant Sea
While much smaller than a Zaratan, Giant Sea Turtles are very large sea turles. They are sometimes used as mounts by the undersea races as well as the Atruaghin Children of the Turtle.

Turtle, Giant Snapping
The Giant Snapping Turtle is of a similar size as the Giant Sea Turtle, but usually found in swamplands. They are very agressive. They are sometimes trained and used as guard animals by Tortle Snappers.

Turtle, Living Island (Zaratan)
While introduced in the Al-Qadim setting and also appearing in the D&D3E Arms & Equipment Guide, Zaratans fit very well on Mystara. These are colossal creatures, found in the seas of Mystara and the Hollow World.

World Turtle
These creatures make even Zaratans look tiny by comparison. They are the size of asteroids and some are rumored to be even larger. These Turtles soar through the void and their shells provide a pocket of oxygen, allowing other sentient beings to survive on their backs. These are immortal level creatures, in some way similar to Megaliths (while far from as powerful).

Blink Turtle
These large Turtles normally move slowly, but they are able to draw power from the Sphere of Time in order to project themselves forward. The effect is not too different from that of Blink Dogs, hence the name. Try racing one of these! They are sometimes used as mounts by powerful Tortles.

Healing Turtle
These turtles are believed to be Fey of nature and are able to cast Cure Light Wounds on a friendly creature touching their shell.
