Underworld extension
by Trenton McKinnonHere's my new homebrew extension of the Underworld, continuing the Gilfyn river to its source, the mountains of Castellan Keep.
This part of the map is ruled by Humanoids rather than Shadow Elves (City of Ust Ktulu is ruled by Mind Flayers - yes they are alien to BECMI). The water that surrounds Ust Ktulu is very, very, deep.
Ust Berranzan has a heavy pop. of Shadow Elves. They are Spider-Cultists, exiles, considered traitors and outcasts by the Shadow Elves that follow Rafiel.
With spider-worshiping dark-elves, rejected by their own people and a loosely controlled Humanoid Town called Ust Berranzan... you can see where this is going...
There are two ways from this part of the Underworld to the surface, natural caverns that lead up to the sewers of Selenica, and networks of caves and passages that lead to the "Cave of the Unknown" on the surface between Castellan Keep and the Caves of Chaos (from B2).
Ust Natha has the largest population of humans (about 20%), Run by Savage Humanoids, is a haven for powerful villains that operate in Selenica. There is also a Palace, many Bounty Hunters can be found here.(...think Jabba. Lol.)
Ust Platoo boasts a 100% Humanoid population. This violent place, more than a mile underground, is the original source of all the monsters from the "Caves of Chaos" on the surface.
The Underworld is approximately 6000' - 7000' below the surface world (as best I could determine from Gaz13 & Vaults of Pandius). The map's scale is the same as the Shadow Elves Territory 8 miles/ per hex.
Each town is it's own City State, hence the "Ust", Bugbear and Goblin for "camp/home". Ust Ktulu is the largest and can be considered a city should adventurers need goods/services that only large cities can provide.
Feel free to use this (or not) if you like. I just wanted to share.
If you hate it, that's ok too. This is what works for my group playing in the year 1151AC.
