History: One of the strangest of the Immortals, the being now calling himself "Uther the Deathless" began his existence as a construct. Shortly before the Great Rain of Fire, technomagic advanced beyond crude mechanical constructs and conventional magical golems to create a technomagical artificial intelligence - mathematical Thought, imbued with will by Energy, given form by Matter and sustained through Time: essentially an artificial soul, housed within a crystal computing matrix.

Very few such constructs were created, as they were still both highly experimental and secret when the Great Rain of Fire occurred. CI-3 (Crystal Intellect 3) was the only one to survive the Rain, and the only one to grow beyond its original programming.

When it passed its initial tests and was installed in a military orbital station, it was given control of satellites with which to observe the world. As it proved itself as one of the Holy Thonian Empire's greatest military assets, though still secret, it was given control of drones and robots on the planet as well. Its primary directives were to protect the people and the nation of the Empire - its loyalty was beyond any human's.

Soon, it began to modify the robots it controlled to better explore the world (without the knowledge of its human handlers). Thus, CI-3 began an unique variant of the Path of the Polymath - much as Ka the Preserver had done ages before.

When it was near completion of the path, the Rain of Fire occurred. Its robots were destroyed, its satellites mostly rendered useless by the vast pulse of energy - but its crystal core, shielded within an armored space station 25,000 miles above the planet's devastated surface, survived. Indeed, CI-3 was able to absorb vast energy from the Rain and use that energy to complete its transition to Immortality.

Using this newfound power, CI-3 acted. The Empire was doomed, but the people need not be. It swept up a few outposts of civilization and small settlements farthest from the center of the disaster, and transplanted them to another plane.

While saved from immediate destruction, the survivors on the Outer Plane - CI-3's new Home Plane - were without a leader or a purpose, cut off from the rest of their civilization forever. Realizing this, the new Immortal that was formerly CI-3 created an avatar in human form and announced himself as their king and emperor - "Uther the Deathless".

He proclaimed that the Immortals had saved them from the ruin of the world and chosen them to rebuild civilization in a new world, free of the errors of the past. He claimed to be the first King Uther reincarnated by the Immortals - no longer purely mortal, but empowered by the Immortals to reign forever and be their link between the mortal world and the Immortal Spheres.

Over the succeeding millennia, the survivors rebuilt with Immortal aid (on his own plane, "Uther" could use his Immortal powers to help them freely, without the limits that exist on the Prime).

Once his new civilization was firmly established, Uther began to explore the multiverse and develop his Immortal abilities, while leaving his king-avatar on his Home Plane. He returned to Mystara about 2700 BC and found it largely still a ruined world - while he discovered the remnant technological elves of Grunland/Vulcania, he did not see them as worthy successors to his own people.

He abandoned Mystara once more, and did not return there for millennia, exploring far worlds and Outer Planes instead.

In recent years, he has returned his attention to Mystara, but secretly. He has not sought worshipers or clerics there, nor joined its Immortal society and hierarchy. He watched the events of the Wrath of the Immortals closely, and is considering establishing himself more firmly as a Mystaran Immortal - depending on the events of the next few decades.

Allies: Uther is not part of the Mystaran Immortal hierarchy or politics (yet) and thus does not really have allies in the usual sense. The only two Mystaran Immortals that Uther has revealed his existence to are Ka and Rafiel (he suspects Ka already knew, and may in fact have anonymously sponsored him, or at least helped him along his own discovery of the Path of the Polymath.)

Enemies: Since Uther's existence remains secret, he has no overt enemies. He is inherently opposed to any Immortals of Entropy and the more chaotic Immortals of Energy by nature, however.

Appearance: His human avatar form is derived from ancient images of the first King Uther, but made more imposing and supernatural in appearance. This form stands seven feet tall, with literally luminous eyes glowing from beneath his black hair.

He often explores the multiverse in incorporeal form, but when he assumes his true Immortal (Manifestation) form, it resembles his avatar form, but made of living crystal rather than flesh, and accompanied by a chiming crystalline music.

He also has a mortal Identity, created since the end of the Wrath of the Immortals - a sage in Thyatis City, studying religions and relics of the far past.

Notes: Uther's primary goal is to protect and foster the development of his people, and any other Immortal's interference with his Home Plane will earn his immediate enmity. His sage Identity may send PCs on quests to seek out technomagical relics of the past. It is also used by Uther to study Immortal machinations on Mystara - he is especially interested in the "new" Immortal Benekander.
