Wrath of the Immortals: Alternate Outcomes

by Håvard

One point of criticism against the Wrath of the Immortals mega adventure, Immortals Fury, is that the key scenarios are fairly railroaded with only one possible outcome. Since the idea was that the mega adventure would bring forth a new campaign setting in AC1012, it is understandable that TSR wanted a fairly unified result of the campaign, but a greater multitude of outcomes might have given the players a greater sense of actually being able to affect events.

I have tried to come up with multiple outcomes of various scenarios, depending on how well the PCs do in each situation in the following ranking system:
High Success
Moderate Success
Failure/Low Success

Here is what I have so far:

THE CRATER (GLANTRI/DAROKIN) (Phase II)

High Success
Meteor is breaks into smaller chunks of rock before it hits the ground. Destruction is limited to some buildings here and there. Corrigan Keep is destroyed. Alphaks is weakened.

Moderate Success
As described in the module.

Failure/Low Success
Meteor hits Darokin city, wiping it off the face of Mystara. The Republic collapses into civil war some years later. Alphaks rises in the ranks of Entropy.

ALFHEIM (Phase II)

High Success
Alfheim is preserved and the Shadowelf invasion is avoided. Rafiel is weakened.

Moderate Success
As described in the module. Alfheim is destroyed, though the Fey and Trees of Life are preserved opening for the possibility of restoring the forest in the future. Rafiel gains influence in the world, while Mealiden and Ilsundal are weakened.

Failure/Low Success
The Canolbarth is permanently destroyed, leaving no chance of the forest's restoration. The elven race is doomed to perish from the Known World. Eiryndul rises among the ranks of Entropy.

BALTHAC/FALSE IMMORTALS ARC (Phase II)

High Success
Kelter Zerben and Balthac join Benekander's quest in helping the world. Increase the success level of one of the other scenarios by one level. Hel is severely weakened. Balthac becomes a full Immortal (Initiate) after performing these tasks.

Moderate Success
As described in the module. Calor and the servants of Hel are defeated with the aid of Balthac. The heroes learn of the Radience beneath Glantri. Hel is weakened.

Failure/Low Success
Calor returns to wreck chaos on the Known World. Kelter Zerben remains a broken man untill his death. Hel secures her position as Full Hierarch.

ALPHATIA/RADIENCE (Phase III)

High Success
Destruction is limited to Sundsvall City, but magic is drained from the continent. The Empire falls apart and is no longer a threat to the Known World kingdoms. Rad and Ixion reconcile their differences.

Moderate Success
As described in the module. Alphatia sinks beneath the waves, but is preserved within the Hollow World. Rad is banished and Ixion is humbled.

Failure/Low Success
Both Alphatia and Glantri are destroyed. Rad and Ixion are permanently imprisoned by the Old Ones. Thanatos grins.

CORRIGAN KEEP (Phase I)

High Success
Benekander is freed in an even stronger form than in the official module, giving him a greater capacity to recruit agents. Gives the players the chance to bump up a success level of a future scenario.

Moderate Success
As described in the module.

Failure/Low Success (a or b)
a) The Shield of Benekander is captured by the agents of Entropy and the PCs have to run a new mission to recover it.
b) Benekander is freed, but in a weaker state. The PCs need to find an artifact so that Benekander can draw some power from that in order to be an asset for the group.

DESERT NOMADS INVASION (Phase II)

High Success
The Master's forces are defeated and Darokin and its allies are left stronger than ever before.

Moderate Success
As described in the module.

Failure/Low Success
Master Successfully takes over Darokin and uses it to stage attacks against other Known World countries in the years to come.

HOLLOW WORLD (HALDEMAR COLONY) (Phase II)

High Success
As Moderate success, but the group also manage to save the Town of Haldemar.

Moderate Success
As described in the module. PCs learn that Kelter Zerben has sabotaged the tunnel and that Balthac is a false Immortal.

Failure/Low Success
PCs need to find out why the tunnel collapsed in some other way.
