Is anyone having a problem with the Vaults? One of the problem pages seems to be the http://pandius.com/lastup.html Last update page. It appears that it's coming up as a bit of gobbledygook. I've only had one person mention this but I can't replicate the problem myself. Is anybody else seeing this?

I've had this happen just yesterday. I can undo it by deleting temporary internet files. This also happened quite some time ago, I posted about it, and you seemed to be able to fix it (or at least it stopped happening ). Arn't computers fun!

Btw, I experienced a wee bit of PANIC when I read the thread's title! :D I hope there's a way for you to be able to have back-ups of files on the Vaults that are completely independant from where they are now.

I've had that problem too. It always happens to the update page- the first time I view it, it is ok. If I hit the back button to it or scroll down it, it turns most of it to gibberish. Its a strange problem, and I've never had it happen anywhere else.

wow, that is odd. If it's just happening there I'll have a bit of a closer look, maybe one of the links on the pages is just really really wrong in some way.

yeah I like to be melodramatic sometimes I suppose. Well the current version of the Vaults is really just on my laptop and then there's the website itself. I've got a backup from a couple of months ago on CD which I update every so often. And there seems to be people who do mass downloads of stuff. It doesn't seem to be on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine yet, I'll have to look into that.

What pages is this happening for you on Hugin?

The 'last update page', as you mentioned, and only that page.

righteo, obviously some link on the pages which is being a bit naughty then.

And a reminder to everyone if you do see stuff like this yourself, always feel free to let me know about it. I rarely look at the actual pages on the Vaults themselves. Now that I've got everything on a server that I'm paying for I've got access to some tools which are proving useful to find other errors in the Vaults but otherwise I just work on things on my off site copy.

No problems here. I seem to be able to go forward and back to this page fine.

You also had me worried with your thread title. I have the Vaults bookmarked as a source of ideas for my campaign and I'd be devastated if anything happened to it. I feel a bit guilty about not having sent anything. One day maybe ...

Well some people seem to have problems and other people don't. What operating system and internet browser are people who are having problems using?

I have replicated the problem with Internet Explorer 6. There aren't any problems if you use Firefox. (Hint, hint.)

To replicate it do this in IE6:
--Start at some url other than http://pandius.com/lastup.html. I used my homepage, http://home.psknet.com/allenr/.
--Type http://pandius.com/lastup.html in the address bar.
--Once the page comes up, hit the back button.
--Once you are back at the first page hit the forward button.
--Crap appears on the screen.

I'll have a look into that but guess which browser is my browser of choice

I've tried that and unfortunately have still been unable to replicate it.

Maybe you have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and back up too. I did that but I didn't think it caused the problem.

Yep! That stuff looks familiar! And btw, I use Windows XP and Internet Explorer (but I don't know how to tell which version).

...but I don't know how to tell which version

Click on "Help". Then go down to "About Internet Explorer".

Rather than worry about that nasty, unsafe, virus catcher, just go download Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/) and remember.... Any browser that is an inherent part of the operating system is inherently unsafe. Microsoft knew better but they wanted to win the browser war......A pyrrhic victory for them. Don't run the risk.

Thanks for the recommendation, guys. I just downloaded Firefox. Oh, I should go test the Vaults update page...

Hey! No garbled crap!

I still can't replicate this problem and there's nothing in the code around that area which appears untoward at all. As part of the next update which I'm working towards I've already put up http://pandius.com/up2005.html page which is essentially the one creating the problem. I've done one or two things with it but still nothing which I'm expecting to have actually fixed anything. Can I bother people to have a go at this one to see if it's creating a problem.

Oh and out of interest I've also got Windows XP and am double-checking this now with IE 6 but yeah as of yet can't recreate the problem.

I cannot recreate the problem. I'm using XP Home SP2 and IE6.

Went to your link above, and page came up fine. Clicked on a link and then hit the back button. Everything at the top of the page was garbage. I'm using Windows 2000 with IE6.

Just done the same on a couple of machine's.

Windows 95 & IE5.5
Windows 95 & Firefox
Windows XP Pro & IE6
Windows XP Pro & Firefox

In all four cases everything was fine.

I never use IE6 for anything, so this could have something to do with the IE cache. Mine would have been empty as I only use IE for Windows Update, so everyone who is unable to replicate it should try cleaning the cache and try again. Maybe it will happen.

yep I'm still unable to recreate the problem. But despite that looking at the actual file itself I can't see anything that might be causing this problem.

And it's still only on this page is it?
