Representations in Glantri AC 1014

by Greenbrier

Anyway here are my thoughts on which nations could plausibly have representation in Glantri circa 1014, beyond the obvious Darokin & Thyatis -

Karameikos - as I said in that other thread, perhaps the Boldavians have advocated for ties due to their Traladaran origins, and Caurenze could also be interested due to the sizable Thyatian minority. By 1014 keeping an eye on Stefan's magical preschool and the Erewan elves wanting ties with nations housing the Alfheim refugees would also be factors. I agree with what you said before about the severing of diplomatic relations during the War, but at least by Nuwmont 1 1018 in the Mystaran Almanac they had the old Karameikan ambassador listed as back on duty in GC - "That night, Lady Esmeralda Erewan hosts a small reception at the Hall of Diplomats, and Sir Boris Gorevitch-Woszlany is seen dining with Sergei Torenescu, Lord Ambassador of Karameikos." I wonder if Marianita wanted to go back south, or if she made up with Carnelia during the war and might be ready to pursue a barony at the next Awards Festival?

Wendar - by 1014 I think Glantri & Wendar would exchange ambassadors due to increasing trade with the new baronies placed up that way, as well as the presence of Alfheim refugees.

Sind - increasing trade with the population growth in the west after Sablestone is enfeoffed, plus greater awareness of the need to keep an eye on things here after the Master appeared on Glantri's doorstep during the war. I don't remember exactly when his forces where thrown out but maybe Sind even had a government-in-exile in Glantri during the occupation, or at least the loyalists maintained the embassy in GC like the Baltic States in Washington during the Soviet era.

Heldannic Territories - another border nation although I think with far less trade, and they were at least nominal allies during the war. Although it's hard to see relations being really warm between the magocracy and the theocracy, both countries could have an interest in cooperation against Ethengar.

Vestland - after years of wondering why Konrad von Drachenfels is in Norrvik, might they reciprocate? Perhaps they want to learn more about the GSoM to ensure that Uppsala College remains ahead of the Karameikan upstarts? They could also see the wizards as powerful potential allies if they ever have trouble with the Heldannic Knights or Ethengar.

Shadowelves - I think Glantri and the Shadowelves could get along quite nicely, Carlotina's best efforts notwithstanding. Dolores likes to use them in her almanac plots, and I love Cthuludrew's take on Ezechiel Naramis

Speaking of shadow elf agents, here's a bit I wrote expanding the character of Ezechiel Naramis from Gaz3 several years ago that you might want to consider. I thought it was an interesting way of distinguishing one of the elven nobles in the region, and particularly one that very little was known/written about. It could be fun to have him come out of the shadows after the Fall of Alfheim and broker diplomatic ties with Aengmor. There's a lot of potential for cooperation between the nations, from their mutual Radiance interest to the fact that a section of the Shadowelf territories are directly under Glantri.

Alfheim - I could see Galladin staying in Glantri to advocate for his people, he's got some ties in Glantri (1st circle dracologist in Gaz 3, should be higher by 1014) and he could be the contact for elves seeking to resettle here instead of the backwaters of Karameikos & Wendar. Although he'd probably have to do it from Ellerovyn instead of an official ambassadorial residence in the Parliament, maybe an "Alfheim Interests Section" like Iran has in the US? Could be a fun China vs. Taiwan game of diplomatic recognition going on in the years after the Fall of Alfheim between the Alfheimers and the Shadowelves.

Ierendi- This wouldn't have occurred to me until I read John Biles list, but I could see a reciprocal monster trade between Glantri & Safari Island. Glantri could also have an ambassador in the isles to see what they can find out about the mages of Honor Island, who have definitely sent an agent to the Principalities in the past (Gherynid in Gaz 4 is listed as a 4th Circle Fire Elementalist.) If part of their mission is spying on the secretive mages of Honor Island, that turns this posting from a beach vacation to a dangerous magical espionage assignment. Another idea from the list thread

About Ierendi: in my campaign there is a strong elite tourism from Glantri to Ierendi Island, specially in Autumn and Winter. There is a teleport net to bring rich and powerfull nobles and wizards to Ierendi City.So the Ierendian ambassor is like a tourism delegate.
