Mystaran Armour

by Håvard

In this thread I listed some equipment from BECMI/Mystara sources that I think could help make a Mystara sourcebook feel unique.

Now there are certainly valid arguments for not including such items or simply finding a 5E equivalent. I do think that some suggestions for Mystara conventions in the 3E era went too far in stressing the unique elements too. However, this thread is not really about such discussions. I want these armors to be a unique types found in Mystara, but I also don't want it to be unbalanced, meaning other equipment would become useless etc.

Suit Armor / Jousting Armor

Revised version of the Suit Armor, taking much of this feedback into account:

Cost: 2500
Type: Heavy Armor
AC 18
Str Req: 14
Stealth: Disadvantage
Enc: 85 lbs
Suit Armor also has the following properties:

Design notes: AC-wise I decided to stick with the same as (Full) Plate in 5E. I wanted to include DR to Piercing damage because I wanted this armor to be effective against smoke powder and black powder weapons if allowed in your games. Suit Armor in this version does not include all the benefits from the RC which also protects against gaseous damage, but it does give DR against Fire Damage.

Ethengar Lamellar Armor

This armor is constructed by many moving pieces of metal and used by the peoples of Ethengar as well as related cultures in Ylaruam and Glantri.

Type: Medium
Cost: 50
AC 14 (16)
Max Dex +2
Stealth: Disadvantage
Notes: This armor gives the wearer an AC of 16 when mounted. While on foot Lamellar works as a Scale Armor.

Shell Armor, Layered (Medium)

Source: PC3 Sea People
AC 14
Max Dex +2
Stealth: Disadv
Notes: Becomes useless after one day if kept dry. Allows swimming (Athletics) at disadvantage.

Shell Armor, Piece (Heavy)

Source: PC3 Sea People
AC 16
Str Req: 13
Stealth: Disadv
Notes: Becomes useless after one day if kept dry. Allows swimming (Athletics) at disadvantage.

These suits of armor are constructed from sea shells, corals and kelp. Anyone wearing metal armor underwater will sink to the ground. If they can breathe underwater they can walk along the sea floor, but the main benefit of Shell Armor is that it allows the wearer do swim, albeit with a disadvantage to swim rolls (Athletics).

Banded, Thyatian

Source: Dawn of the Emperors
Cost 50

Armor Class14
Stealth: Disadv

Note: This is identical to Scale mail in terms of stats. Banded armor is the standard armor used by Thyatian Legionaries.

This is a favored weapon of the Children of the Tiger from the Atruaghin Clans.
